Description:
A good Scottish pewter crested tappit hen of 'chopin' capacity, this example would have been made in Glasgow although it is unmarked.
The tappit hen is of typical shouldered form with multiple incised bands to the shouldered body which stands on a foot rim, the is a cone and ball knop to the lid (this is less common than the normal acorn knop), the erect thumb piece is cast with three horizontal bars. There is a plouk inside the top, capacity to this point is 30floz. There are very good linen marks where the handle joins the body. The lid hinge is in five parts, typical of Glasgow tappit hens.
